About Us
Carolyn Stevenson is the proprietor and sole
owner of "Stepping Stones", a brand new
preschool facility in The Mission, Kelowna BC

Having arrived in Canada in 2006 from her native
Scotland, Carolyn decided to return to school in
order to fulfill a lifelong ambition.....to qualify as a
preschool teacher and open her own centre. In
2008 she graduated from Okanagan College with
honours as an Early Childhood Educator, and is
pictured here on graduation day with two of her
favourite tutors.
The summer of 2008 was spent searching the city for a suitable property in a suitable location. The
house on Gordon Drive, in The Mission, was chosen for its size, style, outdoor space and great location
The property was purchased and rented
out short term while a rezoning
application was made to the City of

The house was fully renovated early in
2009, and was transformed into a
completed, fully functional and self
contained learning centre for up to
twenty 3-5 year old children.

This centre  provides much needed
preschool places for young families in an
area of Kelowna which continues to grow
bigger and more populated.
A mother of two young children herself,
Carolyn knows the importance of good
childcare and of an excellent preschool
education. "Stepping Stones" hopes to
provide both to a community whose
children will benefit greatly from her
passion and abilities

Hello, My name is Shannon McMartin, and I am thrilled to be
a new member of the Stepping Stones Preschool! I love the
compassion and the philosophy of the program, and the
sincere, positive energy that both Carolyn and Nina give
through their teaching style and play-based curriculum. I am
originally from Vancouver Island, but have lived in many
different locations throughout Canada and across the
globe. I have a background in the Arts, with a diploma in
Graphic Design from Sheridan College in Ontario. Recently,
I obtained my certificate in Early Childhood Education from
Northern Lights College. Working alongside children has
always been my passion, as well as a moral obligation I feel
is necessary in our world today. I have a long history with
children, as a coach, a counsellor, an instructor, and now
as an educator. Children engage me with their curiosity,
independence, trust and love. As an educator, I love to
scaffold their learning by observing who they are, by
building their self-esteem and self-confidence, and by
supporting their interests and expanding their development.
I am also a mother of two children, Noah and Maggie, and a
life partner to my best friend, Heywood. I love the journey of
life and my other passions include art, nature,
snowboarding, travelling, music and animals. I look forward
to a very positive experience with Stepping Stones

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, I feel so
fortunate to be able to call Kelowna "home" for the past
22 years.  I am married, with one great son, Alex.

For the past 20 years, I have had the privilege of working
at the Kelowna Young Parents Program as the
Supervisor, providing support and quality care
to children and their families within our community.

I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with
Stepping Stones Preschool.  I am honoured to be a part
of a program that provides such respectful, exceptional
care in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.

Outside of working with children, I enjoying skiing,
camping, hiking and travelling with my family.

Thank you to the wonderful children, families and
teachers at Stepping Stones Preschool,  for making me
feel so welcome!

It is with great excitement that I join the
Stepping Stones Team. Although I have
only been working in child care for the
past 3 years, I obtained my ECE Diploma
from Langara College in 1995. My passion
for children and people led me to pursue
my own business interests and then take
the time to start and raise our family.
As a family we are drawn to adventure and
enjoy camping, canoeing and too many
sports to list. My hopes and dreams for my
own children are to see them believe in
themselves and find success in the
choices that they make. I hope to foster
the same in the children I care for at
Stepping Stones Preschool.

Hello! My name is Rebeca Espinosa and I am from
Argentina.  I moved to Kelowna with my family in

I have been working with children for over 6
years.  I graduated as an Education Assistant in
2015 from Okanagan College.  One of the
reasons that I chose this career is because I have
the opportunity to help and watch children grow
every day.

I am enthusiastic and energetic, I enjoy  being
around people, I love to go outdoors as much as I
can and I appreciate the beautiful simple things
that nature has to offer.

I am really excited to be part of Stepping Stones
as one of my passions is working with children as
"knowledge" can lead them to better places.

My name is Maddy Green and I have
lived in Kelowna since 2010.  I graduated
from the Okanagan College in spring of
2019 with my Early Childhood Education
Diploma.  I am very passionate about
teaching children and I love art.  It is one
of my favourite hobbies, I love drawing
charcoal portraits and painting.  I enjoy
drawing my own colouring sheets for the
children and i am a big advocate of
process art, art projects where the focus
in on th child's experience of making art,
rather than the final project.  I also love
cooking, going to the beach and
watching movies in my spare time. I am
happy to be here as a Preschool
Teacher at Stepping Stones and look
