About Us
Carolyn Stevenson is the proprietor and sole owner
of "Stepping Stones", a brand new preschool facility
in The Mission, Kelowna BC

Having arrived in Canada in 2006 from her native
Scotland, Carolyn decided to return to school in
order to fulfill a lifelong ambition.....to qualify as a
preschool teacher and open her own centre. In 2008
she graduated from Okanagan College with honours
as an Early Childhood Educator, and is pictured here
on graduation day with two of her favourite tutors.
The summer of 2008 was spent searching the city for a suitable property in a suitable location. The
house on Gordon Drive, in The Mission, was chosen for its size, style, outdoor space and great location
The property was purchased and rented
out short term while a rezoning
application was made to the City of

The house was fully renovated early in
2009, and was transformed into a
completed, fully functional and self
contained learning centre for up to
twenty 3-5 year old children.

This centre  provides much needed
preschool places for young families in an
area of Kelowna which continues to grow
bigger and more populated.
A mother of two young children herself,
Carolyn knows the importance of good
childcare and of an excellent preschool
education. "Stepping Stones" hopes to
provide both to a community whose
children will benefit greatly from her
passion and abilities

Denine Brownlee

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, I feel so
fortunate to be able to call Kelowna "home" for the past
22 years.  I am married, with one great son, Alex.

For the past 20 years, I have had the privilege of working
at the Kelowna Young Parents Program as the
Supervisor, providing support and quality care
to children and their families within our community.

I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with
Stepping Stones Preschool.  I am honoured to be a part
of a program that provides such respectful, exceptional
care in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.

Outside of working with children, I enjoying skiing,
camping, hiking and travelling with my family.

Thank you to the wonderful children, families and
teachers at Stepping Stones Preschool,  for making me
feel so welcome!
Juanita Roehrig

It is with great excitement that I join the
Stepping Stones Team. Although I have
only been working in child care for the
past 3 years, I obtained my ECE Diploma
from Langara College in 1995. My passion
for children and people led me to pursue
my own business interests and then take
the time to start and raise our family.
As a family we are drawn to adventure and
enjoy camping, canoeing and too many
sports to list. My hopes and dreams for my
own children are to see them believe in
themselves and find success in the
choices that they make. I hope to foster
the same in the children I care for at
Stepping Stones Preschool.

Hello! My name is Rebeca Espinosa and I am
from Argentina.  I moved to Kelowna with my
family in 2007.

I have been working with children for over 6
years.  I graduated as an Education Assistant in
2015 from Okanagan College.  One of the
reasons that I chose this career is because I
have the opportunity to help and watch children
grow every day.

I am enthusiastic and energetic, I enjoy  being
around people, I love to go outdoors as much as I
can and I appreciate the beautiful simple things
that nature has to offer.

I am really excited to be part of Stepping Stones
as one of my passions is working with children as
"knowledge" can lead them to better places.

very passionate about teaching children and
I love art.  It is one of my favourite hobbies, I
love drawing charcoal portraits and painting.
I enjoy drawing my own colouring sheets for

than the final project.  I also love cooking,
going to the beach and watching movies in

Hello Families

My name is Denine Brownlee and I am thrilled to be part of
the Stepping Stones pre-school program.  As I have the
opportunity to get to know you and your children, I thought it
was only appropriate that I shared a little bit about me.

I moved to Kelowna in September 2018 from Rossland,,Bc in
the Kootenay's with my husband Marko and our two amazing
boys.  My eldest son, Markus (14) is in grade 9 at OKM and
my youngest, Kyle (10) is in grade 6 at Canyon Falls.  As a
family we love to go camping, travelling, mountain biking and
skiing.  A lo
t of my spare time is spent at the hockey
rinks...yes I am a proud hockey mom!

My education and professional experience is vast and
varied.  I have my ECE diploma and Infant-Toddler certificate
as well as a degree in psychology and my Bachelor of
Education.  I hold additional teaching qualifications in primary
education and early literacy.  Lastly, I've earned a speech
and language assistant certificate.  I have worked for over
three decades in day care and pre-schools and elementary
schools teaching kindergarten to grade 6.  I honour and
appreciate the uniqueness of all ages and stages of children
but professionally my heart and soul is happiest as a
kindergarten teacher.

Again, I look forward to getting to know everyone and am
to be a part of your child's early education and
learning journey.

Ella Stevenson
My name is Ella Stevenson, I am delighted to be joining the Stepping Stones team for the
2020-21 term.  I graduated from OKM High School in summer of 2016 and immediately set
out to travel the world.  It began in Spain and ended four years later in Australia.  I have my
Responsible Adult Certificate, First Aid and Clear Criminal Record check and I am currently
doing my Early Childhood Education online.   Unfortunately due to COVID-19 my plans
were halted when College closed and I was unable to achieve my goal.  I have worked in
many summer programs at Stepping Stones Preschool since 2016 and had the opportunity
teach and care for children during my international travels.   I have a passion for children
and really look forward to working at Stepping Stones on a part time basis and getting to
know your children.

In my spare time I love to hike and spend time at the Lake reading a book or paddle
boarding.    I love horses, dogs, cats, otters and most animals.
